Measles spreads easily through the air and can make people very sick, especially young children, pregnant women, and people who are already sick. People may have trouble breathing, or measles could start affecting the brain, which could require them to go to a hospital. It is rare, but some cases, measles can cause death.
Some people may be less likely to get measles. Those people are:
• Children one to four years old with one shot of the measles vaccine.
• Children four and older with two shots of the measles vaccine.
• Adults with at least one shot of the measles vaccine.
• People born before 1957.
